Privacy

Short, and true.

What is collected

Almost nothing. There are no accounts, no logins and no advertising on this site. No cookies are set by this site, which is why there is no cookie banner.

The assistant

Ask Rosette runs entirely in your browser. Your question is compared against a knowledge base that has already been downloaded to your device, and the answer is assembled locally. Your question is not sent anywhere.

If a language model is enabled in future to phrase answers more naturally, the question text alone would be sent to that provider — never an IP address or any identifier — and this page will be updated before that happens, naming the provider.

Question logging

Questions may be logged as text only, with no IP addresses and no identifiers, so that gaps in the knowledge base can be found and filled. Please do not type anything personal into the assistant; there is no reason to, and it would serve no purpose.

Analytics

Page-level analytics, if enabled, use a cookie-free provider that does not fingerprint visitors or build cross-site profiles. Google Analytics is not installed on this site and will not be.

External links

Links out to the IUCN Red List, national parks, NGOs and journals are governed by those organisations' own privacy policies.

Changes

If this policy changes, the change will be described here rather than quietly substituted.
